Spa Day

I am an organized person and sometimes I have to write things down on a Notepad before committing to a computer and then sending it to my Blackberry Storm for a quick reference when I am shopping. So I turned everything off in my house and tried to remember the steps we used in Cosmetology class for Facials. But here’s the thing it has been 14 years since the basic steps and new technology and methods were added.

Spa Days

Let’s do some research shall we

Well they didn’t add too much the only thing they added, if your skin needed it, was Microdermabrasion. Looking it up I see it is used if there are any kinds of scars (acne e.g.) on your face and if your skin was just looking dull. Well I dealt with both of those. Then I started to research salons to see how much they cost to do that procedure, and well since I
am not exactly rolling in the dough yet let’s see what Sally’s Beauty Supply has…

Ta Daaaaaa

Sally’s always comes through. They have a kit just for me called i-Skin Intelligent Microdermabrasion System. It got some great reviews and it had refills available in the store if I should ever run out which is a plus!

I took that sucker home treated myself to a nice Noxema (makes my skin feel clean!) cleanse, then a steam on the facial steamer, a little microdermabrasion action, mint julep masque (oh there is a post on this
too), witch hazel and Purpose Skin lotion (another post). My skin feels like cashmere, for now! Let’s just see how it looks tomorrow morning. Made a cup of hot lemon water, said a prayer and tucked myself into bed…

Good Morning Sunshine

Woke up to my phone alarm. Always forget to turn it off on my days off. Promptly got up went to the mirror and voila. My skin looks amazing! My scars look way lighter my skin looks even toned and still feels like
cashmere!

I would even recommend this to my worst enemy it’s that good…So on a scale of 1 to 10: 1 being it isn’t even worth it to 10 made my pretty toes curl I give it a…

Homemade Sugar Scrubs for Your Face

Sugar may be something most of us need to reduce in our diets. But when it comes to facial scrubs, sugar is a highly desirable ingredient. Sugar is a great exfoliant, helping to brush away old skin cells and expose newer, healthier cells. It also draws moisture into the skin and is a form of alpha hydroxy acid, which assists with cell turnover as well.

There are many unique scrubs you can make for your face that are easy and not at all time-consuming. Try some of these sugar scrubs that promise to give you a healthy glow.

Coconut Bar Facial Scrub

Take one half cup of brown sugar, and mix it with 1/4 cup coconut oil and a few drops of real vanilla extract. Mix and apply 1 tablespoon to your face with your middle finger, so as not to push too hard and damage sensitive facial skin. When you are finished, gently rinse it off with a warm wash cloth and then splash your face with cold water to close your pores. This recipe smells good enough to eat.

Soothing Chamomile Oat Sugar Scrub

This is a soothing mixture when your face needs a little extra tender loving care. Oats soften skin and chamomile is known for its calming properties. Simply mix 1/2 cup brown sugar with 1/4 cup olive oil, a few tablespoons of ground rolled oats, and a few tablespoons of strongly brewed chamomile tea. Mix together and apply it to your face, then leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing.

Geranium Clean Pore Scrub

Combine 1/2 cup brown sugar with 1/4 cup hemp oil and a few drops of essential oil of geranium. Essential oil of geranium is known to help prevent acne breakouts, and it assists in regulating oil production. Hemp oil is a non-clogging oil, and actually works in an opposite manner, helping unclog skin pores. The brown sugar gently scrubs away dead and oil-filled skin cells in order to reveal the healthier skin cells underneath.

Scar-Removing Lavender Sugar Scrub

Mix 1/2 cup brown sugar with 1/4 cup coconut oil, one capsule of Vitamin E and a few drops of essential oil of lavender. Each of these ingredients plays a role in removing scars from your face, whether they are caused by acne or other trauma. Coconut oil has healing properties, vitamin E is well-known for healing scarring on the skin, and lavender helps regenerate skin cells.

Anti-Aging Lemon Scrub

Take 1/2 cup of brown sugar and mix it with 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil, 1 teaspoon argan oil, and a few drops of essential oil of lemon. Olive oil contains polyphenols and oleic acid, both of which help to combat aging of the skin. Argan oil has high levels of Vitamin E and saponins, both of which help soften skin and reduce the appearance of aging. Essential oil of lemon is a natural skin toner, giving your face a healthy glow.

Keep in mind that cold-pressed lemon essential oil is phototoxic, which means you should avoid excessive sun exposure for 48 hours after using it on your skin.

There is no need to spend loads of money on expensive facial scrubs that may be filled with chemicals and other unnecessary additives. Why buy sugar scrubs, when you can easily make them at home and tailor them to the individual needs of your own skin on a moment-by-moment basis? Try these homemade sugar scrubs for a face with a youthful and healthy glow.
